I’m a big fan of the Amazon Prime service and have written before about the many benefits it provides including free 2-day shipping (1-day and same-day in some cities), free access to all sorts of digital content (videos, music, books), and exclusive deals for Prime members.

And I always knew you could buy Prime subscriptions for other people as gifts for the regular $99/year fee. But I just discovered there’s another gift option available: $33 for a 3-month membership. I don’t know if that option is fairly new, or if I’ve just been clueless about it for a long time. (Jus don’t ask me which one I’m putting my money on… ????)
Either way, that price seems much more gifting-friendly to me and also seems like a great last-minute option for people still on your list that have you stumped for ideas. A few things to note about giving Amazon Prime as a gift:
- You can choose which day to have the gift emailed to the recipient.
- If the giftee is an existing Prime member, they can exchange the membership for an Amazon gift card.
- Unlike when you buy Prime for yourself, the gift subscription does not auto-renew, so you don’t need to worry about canceling it so you don’t get charged again.
- You can’t buy a gift membership for yourself. (But you *can put one on your own wish list!)
