As part of this year’s Amazon Prime Day (which is really 30 hours this year, beginning at 9pm Pacific Time, Monday, July 10th), Amazon is counting down to the event with special theme days highlighting services and deals around a specific topic. Today’s theme is Everyday Essentials and it showcases services like Amazon Fresh for grocery delivery and Subscribe and Save as well as offering coupons on popular household items you buy regularly. You can find these deals on the Prime Day landing page.
Also starting today and continuing through Prime Day, take an additional 20% off select brands—including Sonos, Le Creuset, Crockpots, Samsung TVs, Amazon Tap and Fire HD Tablets—on Amazon Warehouse Deals.
Preparing for Prime Day
There’s no way of knowing everything that will be on sale or for how much (although you can see some of them listed at the end of this post), but here are a few things you can do in advance to improve your chances of finding good deals—and snagging them before they sell out!.
Sign Up for Prime
The sale prices will only be available to Prime members so if you aren’t one, sign up now. While the regular price is $99/year, there’s a 30-day free trial period so you can sign up for the sale day and then cancel afterwards.
Check Your Amazon Account Settings
This is especially important if you haven’t bought anything on Amazon recently. Make sure you have a valid credit card on file and your billing and shipping addresses are up to date.
Add Desired Items to Your Shopping Cart Now
If there are specific things you’ve been wanting to buy, go ahead and add them to your shopping cart now. That way you’ll have a one-stop place to see if they’re being discounted. Amazon even helps by posting a notice at the top of the page if anything in your shopping cart has a new price. If one of your items is on sale, you’ll be all set to check out right away.
NOTE: Check out the deals sneak peek below to find some great deals to add to your cart now.
Get Email Alerts from Amazon
One thing I’ve never understood is why Amazon doesn’t offer a price-watch option on product pages. However, you can sign up for email alerts about their Gold Box daily deals, which will include some of the best deals of the day.
Amazon posts upcoming Lightning Deals, which will likely make up the largest number of deals during Prime Day, but they don’t tell you what the deal price will be in advance. However, they do provide a Watch This Deal button that you can click and the item will be added to your Watched Deals page. Again, they won’t email you when the item goes on sale (consider this a giant feature request, Amazon!) but if you have the Amazon app on your mobile device, it will notify you there.
Convert Loose Change to Amazon Credit
Maybe a deal won’t be quite as good as you were hoping for, but having some Amazon credit banked could make the difference. So if you have a jar full of coins lying around, now’s a good time to take them to a Coinstar machine. While the machines take a hefty percentage if you convert them to cash, they waive the fee if you take your payment in the form of an e-giftcard from their merchant partners, including Amazon. After the total has been counted, you’ll get a receipt with a code on it that you enter in your Amazon account settings and the balance sits there until you choose to use it at checkout.

While I won’t be posting every deal available throughout the day (I’d need to check into the hospital for carpal tunnel surgery afterwards!), I will be linking to deals I think will be of special interest to T4L readers.
